Gaya Sa Pelikula (Like in the movies) Review

gaya sa pelikula,bl drama, Philippine drama

Karl has always felt like he was not the hero/protagonist of his own story. Like the plot was already written and he just conveniently came into existence to play the role, that it could have been played by anyone. Until One day, his neighbor, Vladimir, breaks into his apartment to hide from his sister.

 Category: Romance, BL

 Rate: 5/5

Gaya Sa Pelikula (like in the movies) is my baby and I love it! This drama was the answer to all my prayers and the answer to my eternal question, “Why isn’t there a single good BL drama out there?”

If you read my previous reviews on Thai BL you might also see why majority of them were given bad review by me. But this one? It’s a full 5/5. This is a masterpiece, I can’t even find a single thing to criticize even if I have to.

Karl and Vladimir has superb chemistry between them and are superb actors. I see their love and wish I had a love like that in future. I mean watching two people in love and wishing a love like that, isn’t that the criteria for a successful love story?

Vladimir in the beginning is such a spoiled brat and eventually we see him being a bit more mature and Karl, the scaredy-cat, being brave to chase his dreams and his love. It had an open ending full of questions but I interpreted it has Karl being brave to show the world who he was. I was teary eyed to see this awesome character development displayed so spectacularly.

We also get super background music and OSTs, we get super dialogues like, “then why act like I accused you of a crime?” or the one from Karls’ uncle “Don’t turn me into a cautionary tale, I’m too fabulous to be one” and I’m like YES! That’s what we BL drama fans want!

And let’s not even talk about Vlad and his sexy voice and his sexy English. Like every time he speaks in English with his sexy voice, my heart involuntarily skips a beat.

I wanted the drama to air longer but I’m glad I binge watched and finished it in one day, because I think I would combust waiting for an episode every two weeks.

The drama, being a mini drama, was fast paced but not enough to be blindsided with too much information.

I loved the drama, with its fluff, with its beautiful representation of their love, with it making me teary eyed and making me laugh out loud with its funny moments. I’m happy that both of them found their love just like in the movies. I was crying and smiling when it ended.

The best BL in 2020? Definitely Gaya Sa Pelikula.

Favorite Ost: Tahana by Nica del Rosario.

Favorite Scene: Every. Single. One. Of. Them. A mother can’t pick a favorite child!
