The King: eternal monarch surrounds around Manpasikjeok, a magical flute which belongs to the rulers of ‘Kingdom of Korea’. By seeing how the present king is not using it to increase his power, his brother decides to commit treason but the plan was foiled when the young crown prince, Lee Gon, walks in on the scene. Before his uncle could kill him, the prince was saved by a hooded figure wearing a name tag belonging to the police officer 'Jang Tae Eul’, issued in 2019, in future. Now, as the King, Lee Gon continues to search but is unsuccessful. While chasing a person, he accidently opens the door to the parallel universe of ‘Republic of Korea’, and ends up meeting Jang Tae Eul, who has no idea of who he is.

The drama is awesome, Lee Min Ho is as handsome and charming
as ever. Kim Go Eun was a kick ass female lead. What I really liked about this
drama was that Lee Min Hos’ character was refreshing from his previous ones
because he was more respectful and there wasn’t any yanking the female lead and
being rude to her like in ‘Heirs’, ‘Legend of the blue sea’ or basically every
single one of his drama. I find this really moving because k-dramas has finally
evolved from this cliché trope. And his character was a math, physics geek.
Although we don’t get much scenes of him going crazy excited about physics,
it’s there and I loved it. And I think he was a bit too poetic for person who didn’t
like literature.
Although there was a little bit of confusion in the first half, the second half smoothed it out and I was able to enjoy it really well. The scenes, the edits, the architecture were pure aesthetics although some edits were really bad.
I really liked the concept of parallel universe used in k-dramas and about how each steps we take affects our future. Each episodes ends with a cliffhanger, which is bonus because it kept me hooked and thank god that I binge watched it instead of watching it when it was ongoing.
Now the most important point is the existence of Woo Do Hwan, who plays two different characters with two different personalities.
I freaking fell in love with him.
He is such as amazing character and make us in awe at every single scene and not to mention his bromance with Lee Min Ho.
Although the drama was different in terms of plot and characters, it has its faults too. The main issue I faced was how I couldn’t differentiate which was ‘Republic of Korea’ and ‘Kingdom of Korea’ because the director didn’t use a different color palette to differentiate them. They were also a lot of plot holes and too many advertisement for products which was made way too obvious. At times it felt like watching an ad on TV instead of watching a drama which advertises with ease and naturality.

Favorite scene: The ending because I thought it was going to
have a sad ending but it didn’t. I was so happy that I, kind of, shed a few
tears and when we get a 2 second scene of them holding hands and their hands
get old and withered, and I loved it guys, I loved it!
